AI Horde vs Puter for Free Image Generation

A practical comparison of anonymous shared GPU generation and user-funded AI image generation without developer API keys.

AI Horde and Puter both remove the need for a website owner to expose a private image-generation API key, but they solve the cost problem in different ways.

AI Horde uses a public pool of volunteer GPUs. Anonymous visitors can generate without registration or payment, but their requests receive the lowest queue priority. Availability, model choice, and completion time depend on the workers currently online.

Puter associates each request with the visitor's own account and AI allowance. This normally provides a more consistent commercial model and access to newer providers, but the visitor may need to sign in and can run out of included allowance.

Community mode is useful for experimentation, anonymous access, and people who are comfortable waiting for shared resources. Puter is better when generation speed, newer models, or more consistent detail matters more than avoiding sign-in.

Neither option makes every result private. AI Horde community jobs may be shared publicly, while Puter sends prompts to its selected provider. Private company data, personal information, unreleased product designs, and confidential client material should not be submitted.
